Message of secretary Augusto Boboy Syjuco

Welcome to the TWC website!

One of the challenges confronting most government agencies today is the speed of addressing the increasing poverty of our people. The present economic condition has brought about problems of underemployment and unemployment, putting both men and women at risk of entering the poverty threshold. To prevent this, government must respond quickly and appropriately.

As the premier government agency mandated to develop the middle-level workforce of the country, TESDA has always been at the forefront of battling poverty through technical education and skills development. Developing the country's human resources in order for them to become highly skilled workers is our answer to improving the economy.

Corollary to this effort is the growing concern for economic empowerment of women, who comprise not only half of the country's population but also a significant number of the labor force. The TESDA Women's Center (TWC) has been actively engaged in the technical and vocational training and education of women since its birth in 1998 with the cooperation of the Government of Japan thru the Japan International Cooperation Agency. Through skills training, the center facilitated employment opportunities for women, both for the wage and self employment tracks. As the only national training center for women in the country, the TWC had taken the lead role in mainstreaming gender and development (GAD) in the TVET sector to expand women's economic choices, thereby improving their socio-economic status.

This is the TWC's contribution to the attainment of the 10-point agenda of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, particularly the employment generation for women in the country.

We hope that through this web page, TWC would be able to reach a wider spectrum of women clients who need information about the programs and services of TESDA, in general, and the TESDA Women's Center, in particular. We welcome you to the TWC and we hope to be your partner in gender and development.

Thank you.
